02/03/07 – Presided
over by Deputy Ricardo Izar and consisting
of
dozens of congressmen
of Lebanese descent, the Brazil-Lebanon Parliamentary
Front (FPBL) is dedicated to the introduction
at government level of issues related to the
bilateral relations. One of its recently admitted
members, Deputy Renato Amary, visited the Consul
General of Lebanon, Joseph Sayah, committing
to take active part in the action aimed at
causes shared by those institutions common
in a tribute to the centennial bonds between
both nations.
In turn Sayah enthusiastically welcomed the
initiative and pointed out the important role
of such moves, on behalf of cooperation between
the two countries and of the large existing
local Lebanese community.
Renato
Amary had been mayor of Sorocaba for eight
years, during which
period he signed
a sistership agreement with the Lebanese village
of Hammanah. Amary, who is yet to come to his
parent’s homeland, expresses the wish
to do it in the foreseeable future, possibly
on a visit related to issues of urban renovation.
